McKnight shooter indicted for murder

The man that shot former John Curtis, USC, and New York Jets running back Joe McKnight was indicted for second-degree murder last Thursday (Feb. 2).  Ronald Gasser was originally booked for manslaughter by JPSO, but was charged via grand jury with the more serious offense.

It is important to remember if you are booked for a certain criminal offense by law enforcement, that does not necessarily mean you be charged with that same offense by the district attorney's office.  Prosecutors have the discretion to charge a more serious offense (as happened here), a less serious offense, or to refuse the charge entirely.
